The university of Berkely one of the top universities in the world was established in 1863, and it started enrolling girls after 1870. In 1881 only 10% of the bachelor’s degrees granted by the univrsity went to women. The limited number of girls that pursued univercity education was due to the belief that girls who were educated would face reproduction problems.

On 16 March, at a high-level dialogue against the backdrop of the 66th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66), UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous gathered with Action Coalition Leaders and global Generation Equality actors to reflect on the concrete progress made since the Generation Equality Forum in Paris and to share her bold vision to ensure future success.

Η Sima Βahous, από την Ιορδανία, η νέα Αναπληρώτρια Γενική Γραμματέας του ΟΗΕ.

Μέσα από τη γενική αναδιοργάνωση του, ο ΟΗΕ, ίδρυσε το UN-WOMEN, για να ενεργοποιήσει ακόμα περισσότερο τις γυναικείες οργανώσεις και να προωθήσει αποτελεσματικότερα την ισότητα μεταξύ των δύο φύλων. Για να δώσει μάλιστα το παράδειγμα στα κράτη, να προωθήσουν τις γυναίκες σε ανώτερες θέσεις, ίδρυσε τη θέση της Αναπληρώτριας Γενικής Γραμματέως, μέσα στον ΟΗΕ. Η Αναπληρώτρια Γενική Γραμματέας είναι επίσης Πρόεδρος του UN-WOMEN.

Ευαισθητοποιημένες γυναίκες και άνδρες σε όλο τον κόσμο αγωνίζονται για να προωθήσουν την ισότητα και για να βοηθήσουν τις γυναίκες να ενδυναμωθούν και να συμμετέχουν στη δημιουργία ενός καλύτερου κόσμου για τις νεότερες γενιές. Οι σημαντικοί αυτοί αγώνες και τα επιτεύγματα των γυναικών σε όλο τον κόσμο, δυστυχώς δεν είναι γνωστά, σε άλλες χώρες.
