The CVAR and the Turkish Cypriot University Women Association, with support from UNFICYP organized a guided tour on Saturday 5 November at Lefka, in north Cyprus. The Greek and Turkish Cypriot participants had the opportunity to visit the village, network and participate at an interactive discussion with a special guest speaker, Dr. Ipek Borman, former member of the Turkish Cypriot negotiation team. The title of her presentation was “Consequences of the ongoing absence of progress toward a solution to the Cyprus Problem”.

During the discussion the role of education and the history books, was raised once more. Some of the participants underlined that the problem does not come from the people, but from their leaders.
The ambassadors of USA, Australia and Japan were also there. The lunch was offered by the Japanese ambassador.
These bicommunal events are very important because they encourage dialogue and help the communities of Cyprus, come together, talk about their fears and expectations and understand the problems raised by their fellow citizens and thus contribute to their solutions, when they are given the opportunity.
